On January 6, 2013, Christ In Action celebrated the completion of the home rebuilding project for Ronald Brown and his family with a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony. In attendance were many of the Brown's family & friends, and thoughts were shared from Salyersville Mayor Pete Shepherd, KY Assemblies of God District Superintendent Rev. Joseph S. Girdler, and Christ In Action Executive Director, Dr. Denny Nissley. This video shows the process of rebuilding, as well as that last weekend at the dedication ceremony in Salyersville. Based on the computer calculations from Lowe's, we initially estimated the construction cost at $40 per square foot; however, due to the incredible amount of building materials gifted, we were able to complete the home for just $25.35 per square foot! That is way beyond our expectations! Ronald, his wife, Samantha, and their three girls, Madison (7), Lindsay (5), and Olivia (3), have lived in Salyersville, KY, for 16 years. Their mobile home was thrown by the 160 mph winds and rolled three times into their yard while they were all inside. Despite minor cuts, bruises and injuries, the family is recovering and thankful that they are all still alive. Christ In Action has rebuilt a home for the Brown Family. We had volunteer teams frame and sheetrock along with doing all of the plumbing, electrical, and finish carpentry work! So many people and companies contributed to this project, and we would like to thank each one of you for being involved. Special thanks to project managers Earl Stinson and Miles Carlson, Architect Karen Neupauer, Kevin Kestner (Kestner Electric, Austin, MN), Advanced Trim (Trim Supplier), Wholesale Millwork (Doors Supplier), Gene Deiter (Trim & Doors Coordinator), EZ General Construction, Inc. (Framers), Paramount Contracting (Drywall Supplies), Lumber Liquidators (Wood Laminate Flooring), Chris Hatton (HVAC Installation), Tony Gomez (Light Fixtures & Ceiling Fans), Mastercraft Design LLC (Cabinets, Kitchen & Bathroom), and Moen Plumbing (Plumbing Fixtures). On March 2, 2012, an EF-3 tornado tore through 49 miles of Magoffin, Johnson, and Wolfe counties in eastern Kentucky destroying $50 Million worth of businesses, homes and property. While no lives were lost in Salyersville, this funnel cloud claimed two of the 39 lives lost from the 61 tornadoes spread across 11 states. Christ In Action, partnered with Praise Assembly (Prestonsburg, KY), has been asked by Mayor Pete Shepherd of Salyersville, KY, to join with city and county road crews to assist in cleaning up the city. Christ In Action is pleased to work alongside the people of Salyersville and do what we can to provide assistance and bring hope to these families and communities.
